The Singapore Prize Shortlist For the 30th Annual Competition

The story is about the two men’s struggle for freedom, their relationships with each other, and their discovery of a sense of belonging in an unfamiliar land. It was also a finalist for the 2016 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.

A Floating World is the fourth shortlisted work that explores the theme of migration. The other three are Seven Hundred Years: A History of Singapore (2019) by Kwa Chong Guan, Tan Tai Yong, and Peter Borschberg; Sembawang (2020) by Kamaladevi Aravindan; and State Of Emergency (2017) by Jeremy Tiang.

This year’s award ceremony will be held in June 2024. The winners will receive a cash prize and a trophy. Besides, they will be recognized at an awards dinner and a special reading event. The event is open to the public.

The prize for the most promising new talent in the field of creative writing is worth USD25,000. It was established in 2015 to support a rising generation of writers from all walks of life. The competition is open to all Singapore citizens and permanent residents.
