With Hong Kong’s sweltering summer temperatures, a dip in the pool is the perfect way to cool down and refresh. While swanky resort pools are always popular, the city also has plenty of public and private swimming pools with incredible views to choose from.
The best hongkong pools will allow you to swim laps, practise your diving skills, or just relax by the waterside. In addition, many of the pools will have a variety of food and beverage options on site, making it easy to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the sun.
YMCA Bridges Street Centre
If you’re looking for a centrally located indoor pool, look no further than the YMCA Bridges Street Centre. This historic complex is home to the first indoor swimming pool in the city, as well as a number of other recreational facilities. The pool is also relatively affordable, especially when compared to other pools in the area.
Hotel rooftop pools
If a rooftop bar isn’t your thing, but you still want to get some sun and swim in a pool with gorgeous views of the city and harbour, then check out W Hong Kong’s WET rooftop pool. This spectacular infinity pool is 211 metres above ground, and offers a stunning view of the city. Guests of the hotel can enjoy access to the pool and the hotel’s FIT gym for free, but non-guests can purchase a day pass to use the pool.
The pool at The Peninsula Hong Kong has a special treat in store for visitors: a 360-degree view of the city and harbour. The pool is also surrounded by lounge chairs and cabanas, so you can sit back and relax in style. The Peninsula also has an outdoor Jacuzzi, so you can end your day in the sunshine with a cocktail in hand.
A shortage of lifeguards means that some public pools may not reopen as planned this summer, according to the Hong Kong Recreation and Sports Professionals General Union. The shortage is due to the fact that only 40 per cent of seasonal lifeguards have been recruited, even after the Leisure and Cultural Services Department introduced more attractive two-year contracts.
While the shortage of lifeguards has impacted the opening of some public swimming pools, it’s not impossible to find one to suit your needs. There are a number of private pools that offer great facilities and views, so it’s worth exploring the options before you decide to book your holiday. To help you decide, here are a few of our favourites.
