How to Create a Mind-Blowing Domino Track
Domino is a game of skill and chance in which players try to build lines of dominoes by placing one tile at a time on top of a previous domino. Each domino features a pattern of dots, or “pips,” on both sides that indicate its value. A tile with six pips is considered to have the highest value, while a blank or unmarked tile has the lowest value. Players draw tiles from a stock, or boneyard, until they have seven dominoes in hand. The player with the most dominoes in their hand wins the game.
Creating an artful domino track can be as simple or elaborate as you desire. You can create straight lines, curved lines, grids that form pictures when they fall, stacked walls, or 3D structures like towers and pyramids. The key is planning out your design. To start, Hevesh suggests tracing the layout of the track on paper so that you know how many dominoes you’ll need for your project. Then, determine where you want the first piece to start and add arrows that point to where you’d like the rest of your dominoes to fall.
Hevesh follows a version of the engineering-design process when she creates her mind-blowing domino displays. She considers the theme or purpose of her installation and brainstorms images or words that she might use to illustrate it. She then tests each section of her display to make sure it works correctly. If a part doesn’t work, she makes precise corrections until it does.
When a domino falls, much of its potential energy converts to kinetic energy, which is the energy of motion (see Converting Energy). This kinetic energy then flows to the next domino in line, providing the push it needs to knock over the last domino.
A domino is also a metaphor for the impact of learning differences. Just as a small movement can set off a chain reaction, compensating for learning differences can have a big impact on students who aren’t ready to learn new material. Over time, these compensatory skills can prevent a student from developing the necessary skills to succeed in class.
Domino has been a founding member of the mercenary team known as the Six Pack. The team, which also includes G. W. Bridge, Hammer, Anaconda, and Solo, was hired by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Danielle Moonstar to investigate a medical facility involved in anti-mutant research. Domino posed as a camera crew and joined the team at the facility, but they were exposed to Zero Tolerance forces led by Donald Pierce and his cyborg Reavers. Despite being captured, Domino and the Six Pack were eventually freed by Cable. Later, Domino helped investigate the cyborg ULTIMATUM terrorist organization in Rumekistan. When she discovered that the group’s leader, Flag-Smasher, had lobotomized himself to control his messianic powers, Domino assassinated him. This allowed Cable to regain control of the country. However, Domino soon discovered that he was still a mutant and enraged her teammates.
